PRE-ASSESSMENT FOR DIFFERENTIATION

Pre-assessment activity:

Students need to fill out a TPE (THINK/PUZZLE/EXPLORE) chart regarding their understanding of PEEL paragraphs.
Students who excel at the task
·         These 5 students have not only demonstrated they have an excellent grasp of what a PEEL paragraph is, how it functions and how to further expand upon its basic structure. They have generated questions related to expanding the PEEL paragraph and even found several simple solutions involving understanding the format of the question prompt, audience and demanding length of writing.
Students who meet task requirements  
·         These 12 Students have a basic understanding of what a PEEL paragraph is. They are able to generate a few questions regarding how to expand the paragraph but fail in creating novel solutions that show their command of not only paragraph format but the English language.
Students who struggle to meet task requirements
·         These 5 students struggle to recall the parts of the PEEL paragraph. As a result, they are unable to generate either questions or solutions to inside their TPE chart.

The Final Assessment:
Students will create a 3 paragraph essay based on the Unit topic using the PEEL paragraph structure. They will also be assessed on range grammatical structures and lexical range.
Students who excel at the task
·         These students will be expected to turn in a 4 paragraph essay with two PEEL body paragraphs with an introduction and a conclusion paragraph. They will additionally be given a separate rubric that lists their requirements. These students will also be given an advanced list of phrases and grammatical structures to incorporate into their writing.
  
Students who meet task requirements
·         These students will be expected to turn in the standard assignment of a 3 paragraph essay using 1 PEEL paragraph with an introduction and conclusion paragraph. Students who struggle to meet task requirements.
Students who struggle to meet task requirements
·         These students will be expected to write a 2 PEEL paragraph essay. These essays do not require an introduction or conclusion. The primary focus for these students is mastery of the PEEL format along with solid grammar

  1. Hi, I think that you have created a good flow chart. You made good connections and keep the students on task while differentiating between the four students categories.
